Maria Montessori taught that children learn best through direct, hands-on interaction with a carefully prepared environment, while the Reggio Emilia approach views the space itself as a powerful teacher. At our Parkdale campus, these philosophies come together in learning environments that are calm, intentional, and responsive to the students who inhabit them.
Materials are thoughtfully selected and presented to encourage independence, concentration, and deep engagement, while open-ended spaces invite exploration, collaboration, and expression across many languages of learning. The result is an environment that not only supports academic and developmental growth, but also honours each student’s curiosity, capability, and voice.
Located within the Parkdale Community Association complex, Blüm Academy Parkdale brings calm, intentional early learning into the heart of a vibrant neighbourhood setting. Our classrooms are designed as prepared and expressive environments, where order, beauty, and purpose guide each student’s day.
Every material has intention, every space invites engagement, and clutter-free living is modelled as a daily practice—supporting independence, concentration, and respect for shared environments. This balance of structure and expression allows students to explore, create, and learn with confidence and care.
Our tight-knit campus communities are ignited to engage our students to develop a clear sense of values and a social conscience on their path to becoming responsible global citizens. Blüm is proud to be hyper-local and encourages our students to be involved with helping others both in and outside of their classrooms. These are a few of our key community partners:

Blüm’s programming is a proprietary synthesis of internationally respected Montessori pedagogy and the inquiry-driven framework of Reggio Emilia—an approach that aligns closely with Alberta’s provincially recognized Early Learning and Care Framework. This integration ensures learning experiences are developmentally grounded, research-informed, and deeply responsive to the student.
Classrooms are intentionally free from screens and digital media, allowing students to engage fully with thoughtfully curated materials, quality literature, and hands-on learning experiences. Natural and open-ended materials—such as stones, wood, textiles, and loose parts—are regularly incorporated into play, visual arts, and creative exploration, supporting imagination, problem-solving, and expressive thinking.

The BEST childcare we’ve been to. We’ve been a VonKids, PLAY, and two Kids n. Co. locations over the course of mat leaves, Covid, closures etc and Blüm doesn’t even compare. We held our 5 year old later for kindergarten and were worried he miss out but their curriculum constantly had him learning and challenged him as an intellectual. Their Montessori focus has them doing activities that I set up as an eager Pinterest first time mom the first go that I no longer have energy for so I’m so grateful both kids get that there. The staff and educators are one of kind and truly love and adore our children. I love that they happily put siblings together when they’re missing each other or having a hard time. They have no outdoor space but actively get to the park daily and have different programs like jumpin jellies come in for gross motor time. They’re constantly accepting feedback to improve the flow of the entry way and cubby storage. We’re so grateful to have found care that is truly purposeful and eager to constantly grow, and most importantly adore, teach, and foster our children.
