BLÜM'S CHILDCARE OFFERING

INFANT

For the youngest seedlings, this is care for children from 12 months of age until 19 months. Emphasis is placed on integrating Montessori at the very beginning of the learning journey.

JUNIOR PRESCHOOL

The largest age range, this classroom is designed for children 20 months until 35 months, or until right before they turn 3 years old.

PRESCHOOL & JR KINDERGARTEN

Our Preschool classroom is designed for children who are 3 years old, and our Jr. Kindergarten classroom will be for 4 and up until they graduate from the Academy to start school

Montessori

Traditionally, this methodology is reserved for a preschool setting. At Blüm, every single classroom will have a Montessori component and every single Educator will be trained in this specialized care.

KonMarie

Overflowing shelves of plastic toys and overwhelming bulletin boards don’t belong at Blüm. Our thoughtful selection of Montessori materials from reputable suppliers will be presented to children in a clutter-free space.

Sustainable

As a modern organization, we don’t believe in unneccassary paperwork and printing. Wherever possible, documents will be digital and eSigned. 

Enhancement

Yoga, art, language, dance – all of these specialities are a regular part of daily programming. Children will be offered all of these (at no extra cost) right on the premises.

Qualified Educators

Every single Educator at Blüm will hold a post-secondary education, as a certified Level 2 or Level 3 Early Childhood Educator, and trained specifically in the Montessori method. Our team will also be certified in effective communication and anti-Racism training. Everyone on premises will have Vulnerable Sector Search and Police Clearance, plus First Aid training.

Enhanced Sanitation

Along with daily dedicated cleaning and sanitizing, Blüm facilities will be treated with bi-weekly electrostatic disinfection, a specialized method of virus removal from the air and surfaces that also removes germs, moulds, fungi, biohazards, and other contaminants

Innovative Programming

Blüm offers a beautiful and thoughtful blend of Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework, a provincially recognized curriculum, with the internationally renowned Montessori method. This means no screens, only carefully curated educational toys for child-centric early learning and education.

Our Leadership

The founders have been leading licensed childcare facilities in Calgary for over seven years, and both of their families have served their communities in the childcare industry for three generations. 

After welcoming their own child into the world in November 2020, this husband and wife team saw the real need for high quality childcare with a focus on Montessori. They envisioned an inclusive all day program that has components of Montessori in each classroom, for each age group. They designed a space that they themselves would enrol their daughter in – a menu with an international focus, extra circulars like yoga, dance and art provided in each classroom, and a space with a KonMarie focus on clutter-free and clean design. 

As a licensed facility, Blüm is honoured to work closely with the Government of Alberta’s Children’s Services on roundtable discussions surrounding legislation, subsidy and grants, and continuing to create innovative spaces.

BLÜM'S DAILY PROGRAMMING

Every classroom will feature Montessori materials, and this philosophy encourages children to select their own activity and work through it. Emphasis is placed on the process, not the outcome.

A carefully selected seasonal menu will ensure that Blüm's children eat food that is not only freshly prepared but also packed with important vitamins and nutrients. International cuisine like German and Mexican will allow different flavours to be introduced to their palettes.

To be in nature, within the community, is an important pillar of the Montessori philosophy. Our children will spend at least one hour daily playing.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers
Our program is based on Alberta’s Early Learning (Preschool) and Care Curriculum Framework with a Montessori component in each age group / classroom. As such, its planned to be a full-time, five days a week schedule. Our Academy will be operating from 7:00 am until 5:30 pm Monday to Friday, excluding major national holidays.
The program is designed to allow for rest or quiet time from 12:00 pm until 2:30 pm daily. The classrooms will be setup with sleeping cots and sheets and blankets are provided by parents, and sent home weekly to be laundered. Those children who do not nap at this time are provided with quiet activites such as puzzling, books, or colouring. A qualified Educator is always present at all times.
Our philosophy at Blüm incorporates an appreciation of nature and the surrounding community. As such, we are working closely with Childcare Licensing to ensure that registered children go on daily nature walks and utilize the many beautiful existing outdoor parks and play structures that surround West Hillhurst.
We are pleased to offer a carefully curated international Menu at Blüm. Registered children can expect Chef-prepared warm breakfasts, lunches, and afternoon snacks. A sample menu for a day could include overnight oat bowls with yogurt seasonal fruits for breakfast, a Salmon Rigatoni pasta bake with fresh vegetables on the side and milk to drink, and an afternoon charcuteire of crackers, cheese, hummus and vegetables.
As a licensed provider of childcare in West Hillhurst, our Educator to Child ratio is governed by the current Childcare Licensing Act. As such there is one Educator per every four infants (12 to 18 months), one per every six Jr Preschoolers, one per every eight Preschoolers (3 years old) and one Educator for every ten Jr Kindergarten children (4 years old).
